Juniors Ciera Long and Chyna Lopez...have spent the past six weeks creating a variety of artwork in their advanced honors art class at Southside. They chose a vast array of mediums, from charcoal on cardboard, to watercolor and ink, to acrylic on canvas. Both primarily focus on portraits but have also been experimenting with animals and creating a Halloween inspired series. Ciera's zombie prom queen is sure to bring chills while Chyna's seemingly innocent clown could haunt your dreams. The show is currently hanging at Briar Patch Skate Shop in downtown Washington. It will be on display October 24-November 22. Briar Patch Skate Shop and it's owner, Sanders Harrison, has made the skate shop a home for many artists in the community. It's also a great place to buy skateboards and skateboard equipment at very competitive prices. The next time you are walking the streets of downtown, be sure to pop in and check out the amazing art from these two extremely talented students. After graduation in 2018, Chyna plans to attend East Carolina School of Art with a focus on illustration and painting. Ciera plans to obtain an apprenticeship with a credible tattoo studio to learn the craft and become a tattoo artist.
